About Dr. Nayfeh

Dr. Tariq Nayfeh is a board certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip- and knee-joint replacements. He is equally expert in simple, minimally invasive replacements as well as the most complex surgeries. Dr. Nayfeh treats his patients with a wide variety of tools and techniques, including regenerative medicine, which can help patients avoid surgery. 

His surgical repertoire includes partial and total robotic knee replacements, as well as custom (ConforMIS) and cement-less knee replacements. In 2006, Dr. Nayfeh was among the first surgeons in the Baltimore-Washington area to successfully perform an anterior hip replacement, which reduces pain and speeds recovery. Since then, he has performed thousands more and regularly performs outpatient joint replacements and robotic joint replacements.

Prior to joining Metro Orthopedic and Sports Therapy, Dr. Nayfeh served as the Chief of Joint Replacements at MedStar Harbor Hospital for six years. Before that, he was an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins College of Medicine.

Dr. Nayfeh has been recognized internationally and lectures and performs various types of surgeries all around the globe. He has established a referral practice for complex total knee and hip replacements that need his special expertise. In fact, patients from New York, California, Boston, Utah, and as far as Qatar, Dubai, Korea, and Nigeria have sought Dr. Nayfeh’s help.

Dr. Nayfeh graduated magna cum laude and received his masters from Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech). Subsequently, he enrolled in a dual MD/PhD program at the University of Illinois, graduating with a PhD in mechanical engineering, as well as an MD. He completed his residency at The Ohio State University, and his Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at the Missouri Bone and Joint Center.

He is actively involved in the design and improvement of new implants, custom joints and medical instruments.
